Which Host Is Best For You?
June 4th, 2010 | Posted in Web Hosting. This turns out to be the most typical means of Web Hosting on offer. Basically a company starts by setting up one or more servers for Web Hosting, and then their various customers will pay for part of the server and as well as share with other customers. Overall, one server might host hundreds of websites all at once.
Using shared hosting comes with multiple benefits. This form of hosting is usually the least expensive method to use, as the server’s overall price is offset with the payments of multiple customers at once. You don’t have to have any advanced techie know how to use it and you’re only responsible for your own account – there’s no time that you’re involved with the server itself. As it is a paid solution you will have access to customer support, a contract, uptime guarantees and so on.
The disadvantage is that, as you are sharing a server with other customers, you are also sharing the resources of that server. The server, just like a home PC, has only so much memory, CPU and disk space available, and if other customers are using it heavily – or if the Web Host has put too many people on the server – or even if the server isn’t particularly fast in the first place! – your website might ultimately suffer and more more slowly.
Another disadvantage is Shared Hosting won’t allow you access to some of the more advanced and power features that you can get with higher end options. You must also face the possibility of heightened security risks, as your fellow server users might not be using safe web practices. The server itself will usually employ its own type of security, so this is not an issue which should be overly concerning.
For the majority of users and websites, Shared Hosting is the perfect answer to the needs. With a few exceptions, only people who want their own server and/or control over the contents of it will need anything else.
