No Google Slap For You- Be An Internet Marketing Success!

June 7th, 2010   |   Posted in SEO.

If you are a newcomer to marketing on the internet, you may not yet have heard the sob stories of those who have been “google slapped.” Say the term to an internet old-timer and you will see them cringe with fear. The google slap has the potential to completely erase months of hard work almost instantly. It means you have to start all over again. Even worse, it can happen to anyone. In this case, ignorance is not bliss. You need to know what is going on to keep this from happening to you. Here’s what you need to know to avoid being slapped by Google and be an internet marketing success:

1. Follow the Rules. If you want to play ball, you must learn the rules and live by them. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse and the Google system is not forgiving. Every newbie knows that there are two key things to accomplish to build profits in internet marketing: (1) Get traffic and (2) Drive traffic. Using internet marketing to direct consumers to your website is a respectable pursuit. Applying marketing techniques to fool or circumvent search engine (SE) standards will get you booted out of the game. This result is the exact opposite of internet marketing success; it is complete, abject failure.

What do the SE rules require?

2. Be Relevant! Word! Google requires, without exception, that your landing pages, blogs, articles, videos, podcasts, etc be relevant to the title, description and above all, the keyword or keyword phrase you are utilizing in your posting. The Google rules expressly say: “If users don’t quickly see what they clicked on in your ad, they’ll leave your site frustrated and may never return to your site or click on ads in the future.”

When you are writing for relevant content, pay attention to the following concepts to ensure internet marketing success:

(a) Make sure that relevance is the primary thrust of all of your written work be it your landing pages, ads, articles and the like;

(b) Links that are “sponsored” must be clearly designated as such. Sponsored links should be separate and apart from the rest of your content.

(c) Give the audience a ‘teaser’ of what you can offer, a hint of what may come from peering behind the curtain. They need, quickly, to understand what you can offer them without obligation on their part. Let your reader know that you are empathic, understand what they need and can be helpful in meeting their need.

3. Get familiar with the basic concepts of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Simply put, SEO is the system of engineer semantic analytics that sorts and categorizes by subject. When you undertake a simple word search, you know, in advance, the sort of answers you are seeing. SEO makes sure that what you want is what you get. This explanation is, necessarily, an oversimplification, but it does get the idea across. By way of further example, realize that when you search a word like “apple,” you could receive information about the fruit or the computer. SEO makes sure you get what you want. SEO is employed by every search engine on the planet, whether it is Google, Bing or Yahoo. If you construct a site that is easily plugged into these SEOs, you will receive a higher ranking in the respective search engine simply because you have played by their rules. Your site can be found easily.

Keyword density is one favorite application that works well for SEO purposes. You start by choosing a keyword or keyword phrases that accurately depict the subject represented on your webpage. Then, apply the keyword or phrase at a specific rate. The rate will vary from 1% to 3-5% depending on your target and your mode of publication. It is not necessary to be an expert on all the technical aspects of this approach, just know how to use it properly. If you apply the simply formulas developed for keywords, you will fit well within the existing SEOs and be successful in your internet marketing efforts.

Building landing pages, writing articles, filming video clips and blogging are the prevalent tools for today’s internet marketer. If you know the elementary rules and follow them, you are virtually assured a successful campaign. Do your homework, know and follow the rules, deliver quality content and you absolutely will direct the desired traffic to your sites.
