With the internet’s evolution transforming the way business is done, SEO or search engine optimization has acquired high value for people seeking to make their sites highly visible to casual visitors. In fact, it’s almost impossible to do well with a site today without using some form of SEO. SEO can be divided into two rough categories: White Hat and Black Hat. Black Hat SEO involves maximum exploitation of search engines at the expense of actual site content or usefulness, and is considered bad form as a marketing technique. Therefore, this article will focus on White Hat SEO, which is universally accepted as appropriate, and has better results in the long run.

White Hat SEO uses techniques that increase traffic to web site, as well as increasing your site’s overall visibility, without risk of being penalized or punished by search engines or other entities. In fact, good White Hat SEO involves making people happy to see your site and get to it, creating a stream of traffic that wants you to be around and finds your marketing to be not only non-intrusive but actually helpful and convenient. Once you’ve built up a good reputation and high visibility, all you have to do is maintain it with minimal effort to reap the benefits for years to come. So, let’s go through the major functions of White Hat SEO.

White Hat SEO Techniques: Internal linking is a big factor in your website’s ranking. How the different portions of your site are linked will either make it easier or harder for search engines to spider and index pages. (“Spidering” refers to the process the engines use to search for content.) Search engine spiders are very simple programs, and are mainly concerned with text. They tend to ignore images, scripts, frames, directories, and such. Drop-down navigation, for instance, is a bad idea from an SEO point of view. It may look fancy, but as it contains little text it will tend to be ignored by the spiders, leaving the content behind it unseen. It is critical to leave text links to your most important internal pages at the bottom of your home page. (This includes the sitemap, if any.)

White Hat SEO Tactics: Internal linking A good website ranking by the search engine is marred by making the task of spidering and indexing difficult for it. Scripts may help in providing drop down navigation in websites but they may not be crawled and indexed by the search engine bots. Search engine drivers are insensible to images, scripts, frames and directories etc. and hence drop down navigation may not the identified by it. The look of the website may be enhanced by scripts and navigation but the function of spidering by SEO gets failed. So it is vital to include text links at the base of your landing page with links to you key internal pages together with the site map.

This is a time-consuming process, so don’t waste your time by randomly linking to any site that you can. It not only wastes time, it likely won’t bring you any results.

Take your time and link to the best sites, because you are who you keep company with. It will take a long time to build up a robust system of links. However, once you’ve done it, your traffic will soar, and maintenance of the system will be negligible.

Of course, the most important part of White Hat SEO is in the name of the thing itself: search engine optimization. By using the right keywords sprinkled around your site without hampering your content quality, you allow searching web browsers to find your site easily. Choose your keywords and your density for those keywords wisely and well, and you’ll be able to profit.
