The reason so many choose affiliation as their starting point is that it looks easy. It seems like you just put-up some links somewhere because there’s no product to make. Of course you can do this, but if you do you may not make the money you are expecting. You need to work hard to make sales as an affiliate marketer. Don’t be afraid to give away a little bit for free. Ok, think about this. When was the last time you saw product samples being handed out totally for free at places like grocery stores? You can also write product reviews instead of the same old boring standard affiliate links only. You’ll likely make more sales if you’re willing to give an honest discussion about the negatives as well as the positives. If your marketing methods include writing content for a blog, as an example, then please make sure you keep them engaged and interested – always. Ideally, your content should have longevity and be valuable years down the road. That way your readers will be clicking through, your affiliate links, for many years instead of just many days, or weeks. Another consideration concerns excessive advertising material on your affiliate site; this is a practice you’ll need to be careful about. You may create the wrong impression if your site is heavy on the advertising banners/graphics, also it can really be an eye-strain for your readers. Although a site is overloaded with excellent material, all the banners and graphics scattered all over will cause them to make more of an effort to ‘not see’ them.
Some readers don’t like the concept of affiliate marketing, and this may aggravate that feeling causing them to navigate away. So choose carefully how many and where you place your ad graphics. Use one method per product and make it easy to find (sidebars are good for this), and the sales will flow in.
There are lots of ways to have fun and make money as an affiliate marketer. When you choose a niche and product line that you enjoy, selling those products can feel more like a fun hobby than a job that you are working hard to succeed at. You’ll find there are so many ways to expand that you’ll have trouble knowing what to do next. Be patient and work hard.
