Web Design Elements You Should Avoid Having on Your Site

April 26th, 2010   |   Posted in Web Design.

As a web site designer, you need to design your internet sites to give your visitors the best simplicity of use, the best impression and most critical of all a hospitable experience. It’s inconsequential if you had the best product in the entire world — if your site is poorly done you will not be in a position to sell even one copy of it because visitors will be driven off your internet site by the pathetic design.

When I am talking about a “good design”, I am not only talking about a good graphical design. A pro web design will be in a position to say that there are plenty of parts which make a contribution to a good web design — accessibility design, interface or layout design, user experience design and obviously the most easy, which is design.

1) Background music Unless you are running a site which promotes a band, a CD or anything related to music, I’d actually counsel you to keep away from putting looping background music onto your internet site. It may sound agreeable to you initially, but imagine if you ran a large site with loads of pages and everytime a visitor browses to another page on your internet site, the background music starts playing again.

1) Background music Unless you are running a site which promotes a band, a CD or anything related to music, I’d truly counsel you to keep away from putting looping background music onto your site. It may appear nice to you initially, but imagine if you ran an enormous site with hundreds of pages and everytime a visitor browses to another page on your website, the background music starts playing again. If I were your visitor, I’d just turn off my speakers or leave your website. Also , they just add to the visitors burden when viewing your internet site — users on dial up connections will need to wait longer simply to view your internet site as it is supposed to be viewed.

2) XL / tiny text size as I mentioned, there’s more to website design than solely graphics — user accessibility is one huge some of it too! You must design the text on your internet site to be meaningful and moderately sized to enable your visitors to read it without straining their eyes. Regardless of how good the content of your internet site or your sales copy is, if it is unreadable you will not be selling anything!

3) Popup windows Popup windows are so obviously used to display adverts that in my mind, ninety percent of popup windows are not worth my attention so I just close them on instinct each time every one manages to pass thru my popup blocker ( yes, I am doing have one like many users out there ) and, well, turns up on my screen. Imagine if you had a crucial message to convey and you put it in a popup window that gets snuffed out much of the time it appears on a visitor’s screen.

Do not let some insignificant mistakes stop your site from working optimally!
