How Internet Marketers Can Make Their Blogs Better

April 30th, 2010   |   Posted in SEO.

If you’ve been marketing online for a while, you probably realize that blogging is an essential aspect of making money. There are just many more ways to run a profitable online business if you have a blog. Of course knowing why you need a blog and actually blogging are two different things. Fortunately, with all the tools available now, it doesn’t have to be hard to set up a blog and post content to it. Blogging does not have to be hard work; many people actually enjoy posting to their blogs. The fact that it can make money becomes almost secondary. The following suggestions will give you a system to start your blogging career.

Make sure your blog has an RSS Feed. RSS is short for saying ‘Really Simple Syndication.’ Some blogs come with feeds set-up so you don’t have to do it manually. You can stick with your own blog’s feed or you can choose one of the many that are available from other companies for free. If you are planning to use a different RSS Feed besides the want that your blog is equipped with then it would be a good idea to consider creating one by Google’s RSS Feed system, Feedburner.

Having a feed helps your readers stay current with your writing without having to check your page every day to see if you have published something. Instead, they get notified through their chosen feed reader that you have posted and they can read your posts at their leisure.

Offer an e-mail subscription option for your blog that allows your readers to get your blog posts e-mailed to them directly. The purpose of this is not to send out a newsletter but for a different purpose. This is a method by which the reader submits his e-mail address to your system and every time you post, a copy of that post gets e-mailed to that reader. The main incentive to setting up this process is that a large majority of people that are really interested in the topic will sign-up and read about any products that you might recommend in your content.

Put up an Opt-In form that your readers can use to give you their e-mail addresses. This opt-in list is for the purpose of emailing the subscribers valuable information that will help them solve a problem or make some extra money (if you are in a business niche); also, it could be used to pitch relevant products.

Some marketers prefer their blogs to have their own domain names. If you are new to the whole ‘blogging thing’ however, it is better to simply add a blog on to your existing site through a sub domain. You’ll be saving money on registering a new domain name and you’ll be able to associate your blog with your products. However, if you wish to blog across more than one niche, it may become worthwhile to invest in a new domain name so each blog has its own identity.

There are many ways for you to monetize your blogs but you must be willing to do the work and learn a few basic skills. Since blogging is so easy; there is no limit to how for you can go. If you like your niche, it can even be quite enjoyable and feel more like a hobby than a job!
